Tripoli (IINA) – The Presidency Council of Libya's Government of National Accord issued a decree to freeze all the bank accounts of the ministries and institutions, except for accounts for state salaries, Libya Herald reported.
The decree came after the Presidency Council, led by prime minister-designate Fayez al-Serraj, held a meeting here on Sunday with the Central Bank of Libya, the Audit Bureau and major banks.
The meeting discussed ways to deal with the pressing economic problems such as the cash shortage at banks and the exchange rate of major currencies against the Libyan dinar.
The Presidency Council had earlier passed a decree creating a finance committee to oversee financial affairs until ministers of finance, economy and planning are approved by the House of Representatives.
Members of Libya's UN-backed Government of National Accord arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday, in a move that unanimously welcomed by the UN Security Council, describing it as "an important step towards bringing stability to the country and bringing the political process back on track”.
