Abbas: ‘urgent’ need for UNSC resolution on Israeli settlements

Ramallah, (IINA) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Monday in an AFP interview that there is an “urgent” need for the UN Security Council to issue a resolution on Israeli settlements.
Abbas said that Israel is endangering a proposed two-state solution by continuing to build settlements on Palestinian lands. It is noteworthy that settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian Territory are considered illegal under international law.
Settlements violate Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the transfer of the occupying power’s civilian population into occupied territory.
