Turkey awarded for hosting 2.7 million Syrian refugees

Washington, (IINA) - An American humanitarian aid organization awarded Turkey on Saturday for its "tireless advocacy" in hosting 2.7 million Syrian refugees and spending more than $10 billion to look after their needs, Anadolu Agency reported.
The non-governmental American Relief Coalition for Syria presented the award to Turkish Ambassador to the U.S Serdar Kilic at the organization's third annual dinner, on the sixth anniversary of the Syrian war, which was followed by a fundraiser for the Syrian people.
On his part, Ambassador Kilic expressed appreciation to the organization, saying the timing of the award was meaningful for showing solidarity with Syrian people.
The ambassador stated that it was Turkey's tradition to give hope and safe haven to people from other countries, like the Sephardic Jews who fled Spain to the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, and that this tradition abided by the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to take care of one’s neighbor.
"Let's stop losing a generation; they are important for the future of Syria, they are important for the future of our neighborhood".
It is noteworthy that Turkey is hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees in the world, with about 2.7 million Syrians in the country, and has so far spent around $10 billion on them.
