OIC to participate in UN’s 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Jeddah, (IINA) - A delegation from the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its Permanent Observer Mission to the UN will be participating in the 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60), which will take place at the UN headquarters in New York from March 14 to 24.
The OIC, in collaboration with other international organizations and institutions, is co-hosting four different events on the sidelines of the CSW60.
On Wednesday, the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC to the UN, the US Federation for Middle East Peace, the Islamic Relief Worldwide and the Lutheran World Federation are holding a panel discussion on “Engaging faith communities to implement SDGS – Achieving Gender Justice and Eliminating Violence against Women and Girls”.
The parties, excluding the Lutheran World Federation, will also hold another event on the following day on “The Role of Islamic Microfinance in Reducing Exclusion, and Promoting Women’s Economic Rights and Empowerment”.
In addition, the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC, the Islamic Development Bank, the Permanent Mission of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the UN, and the US Federation for Middle East Peace will organize “The Promotion of Women in the OIC Region”, on Friday.
Moreover, the Permanent Mission of the US to the UN and the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC will hold a discussion next Monday on “Empowering Women through Storytelling”, which will focus on how storytelling as a platform can be used to amplify the voices of Muslim women worldwide on issues such as anti-Muslim sentiment and broader social justice movements.
These side events seek to highlight efforts made by individual women, OIC Member States, Inter-governmental organizations and civil society to encourage positive space for females to create peaceful and inclusive societies, and to hear how everyday women are supporting their local communities by taking the lead in organizing and promoting the role of women in the OIC Region.
