International Islamic conference calls for developing religious rhetoric to tackle hyperbole, extremism

Abuja (IINA) – The discussions on Saturday, at the conclusion of the International Islamic conference for Security and Stability organized by the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) in cooperation with the Pro-Sunni Associations in Nigeria, focused on the reasons behind extremism in the past and the present, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Saturday's final session, held under the theme "Towards a Better Future and Responsibility of Achieving Security and Stability" was attended by MWL Secretary General Dr Abdullah bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki and a number of religious scholars, thinkers, intellectuals and university professors of the Islamic world, as well as heads of Islamic centers in the African continent. They discussed the relation of extremism with the ignorance of holy Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Prophet's sayings and deeds), literature of prominent scholars in history, as well as lack of educational curricula of good interpretation of holy Qur'an and genuine Hadith (prophet's sayings) to immune the youths against extremism.
The participants underscored the importance of educating the true Islam to the youths in a way that will be positively reflected on the international social peace as Islam is the religion of peace, social, psycho, living and economic security and whatever related to the human happiness.
The conference recommendations emphasized the bases of national unity, and the face of calls for tribal and ethnic disunity, in order to deepen the culture of unity, in accordance with a shared vision of Islamic action priorities that takes into account the nature of the communities and meet their needs.
At the conclusion of their meetings, the participants stressed that the hyperbole and extremism is an old global phenomenon that does not reflect the true Islamic religion, but rather reflects an image of wrong understanding of some of its provisions.  Warning against hyperbole and extremism, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Beware of extremism in religion, for the only thing that destroyed those before you was extremism in religion".
Participants also stressed that countering terrorism is a shared responsibility, requiring concerted efforts to drain its resources and address the social causes, as well as the search for a fair solutions to the regional problems.
