New York (IINA) – Kuwait, representing the UN Arab Group, has hailed the efforts of the United Nations on holding debates to discuss expansion and reform of the UN Security Council, KUNA reported.
The recent international developments, mainly in the Arab world, pose a challenge to the international community, said Kuwait's Permanent Envoy to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi at the Security Council reform debate late Monday.
The Council is exerting huge efforts to expand and develop its work methods in order to deal with different challenges in a neutral and transparent manner, the ambassador said.
He added that the international community's conditions have changed prominently since the establishment of the United Nations in 1945.
Al-Otaibi stressed on the importance of granting a permanent seat to the Arab states in the future formation of the 15-member body, due to the numerous issues of the Arab world which the council looks into. He noted that the number of Arab member-states in the UN has risen from five to 22 since 1945.
