Pakistan PM Sharif inspects Sahiwal coal power plant

Lahore (IINA) – Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday reviewed pace of work on 1320 MW Coal Power Project, in the city of Qadirabad, Sahiwal district, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
The project consists of two plants of 660 MW each, while the total cost of the project is estimated at $1.8 billion. The entire investment of the project is being made by China's banks through the Chinese Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which is carrying out the Sahiwal Coal Power Project.
The project is sprawled over an area of 1,700 acres. It was started six months ago, and Huaneng Shandong Group China is to complete 51 percent of the project while the remaining 49 percent work will be completed by Shandong Rayi Science China.
The first 660 MW plant will start power generation by 31 December 2017 and the other of 660 MW will generate power by 30 June 2018.
The project also entails 9.5-kilometer-transmission line of 500 kv to be connected with nearby 500 kva Grid Station at Yousafwala, in Pakistan's Punjab province. The entire project will consume 4.48 billion tons of coal annually to be imported from South Africa and Indonesia.
