Jeddah (IINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) made an urgent appeal to the international community to assume its responsibilities and take immediate steps to end the siege on Madaya and Zabadani in Syria and Taiz in Yemen to allow unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid to save the lives of civilians.
The OIC General Secretariat confirmed in a statement on Monday that it is following up with deep concern the critical humanitarian situation which claimed hundreds of lives as a result of hunger and diseases, stressing that it would continue its efforts and contacts to ensure an end to this suffering.
The General Secretariat emphasized that the ongoing blockade and starvation of innocent civilians in Syria and Yemen amount to war crimes and that it is necessary to spare civilians from the scourge of war.
The General Secretariat said it was watching the deal that has been reached by aid organizations on the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the trapped civilians in both Syria and Yemen. It also called on the international community and OIC member states, as well as the humanitarian organizations in the Islamic world to provide all forms of support and assistance to the trapped people in the besieged cities of Madaya and Zabadani in Syria, and Taiz in Yemen.
