OIC chief, Thai prime minister discuss regional issues

Bangkok (IINA) – Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayuth Chan-ocha received here on Tuesday Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed regional developments, issues of mutual concern and ways of enhancing relations.
Madani also met other leading Thai dignitaries during that day, including Secretary General of Thailand’s National Security Council General Thaweep Netrniyom and Sheikhul Islam of Thailand Arsis Pitakkhumphol.
In the meeting with Netrniyom, both Secretaries General discussed issues of mutual concern and the role of the OIC as an inter-governmental organization.
During the meeting in Thailand's Sheikhul Islam Office - an office that has been operating in Thailand since the 17th century - Madani and Pitakkhumphol discussed the function of the office and the issues of different Muslim communities in Thailand, an observer state of the OIC.
Madani was also introduced to the Wasatiyyah Institute for Peace and Development, a body established by the Sheikhul Islam Office to develop religious leaders and create better understanding between Muslims and people of other faiths.
During the course of that day, the OIC chief also visited the International Institute of Peace Studies (IIPS), a grassroots NGO that uses education to promote multiculturalism and peace among people of different faiths and backgrounds.
