Amman, (IINA) - Jordanian Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Nasser Judeh on Tuesday discussed with a British parliamentary delegation the political developments and challenges facing the Middle East, and the efforts being exerted to address them, Petra reported.
Judeh referred to the "distinguished" Jordanian-UK ties, noting that the two countries had the mutual desire to further promote cooperation "at all levels". During the meeting, Judeh also emphasized the importance of injecting new momentum into the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, and to create an environment conducive to restarting the political process.
The minister stressed the importance of a negotiated settlement leading to an independent Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on internationally backed terms of reference and the Arab peace initiative.
He said all final status issues that lie at the core of the conflict are closely linked to vital Jordanian interests, reiterating that the Kingdom has a vested interest in establishing a Palestinian state.
The deputy premier told the British lawmakers that the region and the world would not have security and stability without finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, warning that failure to bring about a settlement would feed extremism, terrorism and violence in the region.
The meeting also tackled other regional crises, including Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen with emphasis on reaching political solutions to these conflicts through dialogue to preserve the countries' security and stability.
Judeh also spoke about the huge burden the Kingdom is shouldering for hosting more than 1.4 million Syrian refugees, and the pressure the refugee influx placed on local communities and infrastructure, underscoring the need to assist Jordan in this regard.
The British lawmakers said they appreciated the Kingdom's efforts towards the refugees and its pivotal role to realize regional stability, expressing their country's backing for this endeavour.
