Jakarta (IINA) – Indonesia is considering new measures to help prevent terror attacks following the suicide bombing in the capital Jakarta last week that claimed eight lives and injured about 20, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported quoting Malaysia's BERNAMA.
The information was revealed here on Monday by Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan. He said the new steps include a revision of the terrorism law that would give the country's security agencies the authority to arrest those suspected of launching terror attacks.
Panjaitan added that the government will ask parliament to revise the country's terrorism law, and expected the changes to be completed this year.
The Indonesian government asked parliament to do so in 2001, but the bill was rejected by lawmakers amid concerns that the right to arrest and detain would be misused for political purposes.
