Paris (IINA) – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Monday held discussions with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), being held in the French capital Paris.
Rahmon affirmed the depth of the existing religious, historical and cultural ties between two countries. For his part, the Algerian prime minister expressed his country's desire to strengthen cooperation with Tajikistan in the fields of economy, energy and culture.
The two sides exchanged views on ways to develop bilateral relations in the areas of hydroelectric energy and industry. They also reviewed means to develop cooperation in regional and international trade as well as the establishment of joint ventures for the production of fruits and vegetables, and the extraction of oil and gas.
Further, both sides voiced concern about the current situation in the Middle East, stressing the importance of strengthening relations among the Islamic countries in the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to combat terrorism and extremism.
More than 150 world leaders have converged in Paris to launch the two-week talks, known as COP21, aimed at signing a long-term deal to reduce global carbon emissions.
