Jeddah, (IINA) - The fight against terrorism constitutes a paramount importance in the strategy of Saudi Arabia, and it has followed a strict policy to fight the internal terrorism that endangers citizens and was able to eliminate several terrorist cells in dangerous confrontations. Saudi Arabia also sought to besiege terrorism in the Gulf and Arab countries through several memoranda signed with the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League.
In addition, Saudi Arabia is seeking a global agreement to fight terrorism, and it is attempting to develop an explicit definition of terrorism so that it can be confronted and eliminated. Saudi Arabia condemned the international community’s slow movements towards eradicating the phenomenon of terrorism until ISIS was able to conduct terrorist operations in the US and Europe. It stated that if the society reacted effectively at an early stage of terrorism, terrorist groups such as ISIS would not have been emerged. However, since such an organization has already emerged, it is not worthwhile to stop and blame others. Saudi Arabia rushed to fight ISIS and follow the movements of both inactive and active cells, and it successfully managed to paralyze a majority of its actions.
Saudi Arabia was also quick to join the international coalition in the war on ISIS. It also took an extraordinary step in the war on terrorism and formed the Islamic Military Alliance to effectively fight terrorism.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, in his speech at the opening of the 4th year activities of the 6th Session of the Shoura Council on Wednesday, said: “We have to uphold national unity and confront all propaganda for evil and sedition. Fighting and stamping out the scourge of terrorism is the collective responsibility of the global community, and the formation of the Islamic military alliance is the latest endeavor in this regard”.
There is no doubt that the step of forming the Islamic Military Alliance is a significant step since it is not only a military coordination but an intellectual one as well, one that aims to eliminate the ideology of extremism.
