OIC lauds Burkina Faso for successful conduct of elections

Ouagadougou (IINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has commended Burkina Faso for the successful conduct of the presidential and parliamentary elections, which took place nationwide on Sunday, in all the 368 administrative districts under a peaceful and transparent atmosphere.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani expressed satisfaction that the exercise was held in free and fair environment. He also praised the voters for their huge turnout as a mark of their determination to restore constitutional order in their country after a year-long political transition.
Madani paid tribute to the transitional authorities and the Independent National Electoral Commission for the overall arrangements that contributed to the smooth conduct of the polls despite numerous challenges. He also paid tribute to the political class for the maturity to accept the will of the electorate.
The Secretary General congratulated President-elect Roch Mark Kabore on his election and reiterated the OIC’s unflinching support to Burkina Faso in its endeavors to promote socio-economic development. He also assured the incoming elected authorities of the OIC's commitment to realize the legitimate aspirations of the Burkinabe people.
It is noteworthy that a delegation from the OIC was among the election observers.
