Kuwait City (IINA) – Kuwait has decided to send ground forces to take part in the war in Yemen, where a Saudi-led Arab coalition is fighting the Houthi rebels, a local newspaper reported Tuesday.
Kuwait's participation in the Yemen war has so far been limited to the air force. Al-Qabas daily cited an informed source saying Kuwait's cabinet has approved sending the troops to Saudi Arabia, which is leading a coalition against the rebels, as soon as early next week, AFP reported.
"Kuwait decided on the participation of its ground forces, represented by an artillery battalion, in operations to strike at positions of Houthi aggression against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," the paper said.
The Cabinet approved the move at its meeting on Monday to resist attacks by the Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, considering security of the Gulf as part and parcel of all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states' security, the same source said.
