Aleppo, (IINA) - Russian warplanes carried out an attack on Wednesday in Syria's northwestern Aleppo province, causing the death of at least seven people and another ten injured, Anadolu Agency reported.
Local sources said the airstrikes, which occurred in Aleppo’s Azaz area, struck an aid convoy delivering supplies to refugees, killing seven drivers and leaving 20 trucks in flames. Commander of the opposition Damascus Front group Zakaraya Karsli verified the strikes.
Russia began air operations in Syria on Sept. 30 to support the Syrian Regime leader Bashar al-Assad.
The Kremlin said the airstrikes are aimed at supporting Al-Assad regime against the ISIS militant group, but some members of the western NATO alliance believe Russia is targeting groups opposed to Assad, including several US- and Turkish-backed groups.
The strike on the aid convoy came one day after Turkish forces downed a Russian jet that allegedly crossed into Turkey while conducting strikes in Syria.
It is noteworthy that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu that the act by Turkey will have "serious consequences for Russian-Turkish relations and will not go unanswered", according to a statement released by the Kremlin.
