Doha, (IINA) - Qatar-based Al-Fakhoora Education Group has launched on Sunday its first phase of education initiatives to develop the potential of Palestinian students. A 10-year project in the form of a comprehensive scholarship program for the Palestinian students in Gaza will provide full scholarships to 100 students for four to five years of higher education, news agencies reported.
According to the Middle East Monitor, the scholarships are an extension of previous subsidies provided by Qatar, and these include the reconstruction of the Strip in partnership with UNICEF, UNRWA and other international organizations.
Qatar-based Al-Raya newspaper said that Al-Fakhoora has already offered 600 scholarships and is due to provide 1,000 extra scholarships by 2016, in an effort aimed at paving the way to educate future leaders in Gaza.
It is noteworthy that the group is supported by UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education Sheikha Mozah Al-Missned. It is also being implemented through a tripartite agreement between Al-Fakhoora, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Palestine Chronicle reported.
“The scholarship program is an important effort to build the kind of higher education capacity critical to the development of the Palestinian youth”, said Farooq Burney, Project Director of Al-Fakoora. “We are enthusiastic to see this project moving forward and expect great results from our partnership with IDB and UNDP in equipping Palestinian students for a brighter future”.
