Tajikistan bans political party IRPT after labeling it terrorist

Dushanbe, (IINA) - Tajikistan's Supreme Court on Wednesday announced the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) as an extremist and terrorist organization. The court further ordered to ban the party, KHOVAR reported.
During the years 1992-1997 the Islamic Renaissance Party had been operating in Afghanistan, after the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord concluded in 1999, the party was allowed to function in the Republic of Tajikistan. Later, on October 15, 2003, the party was registered as a political party.
The party’s purpose in Tajikistan was to protect the political, economic, cultural independence, preserve the unity and integrity of Tajikistan and protect peace and integrity of the nation.
Unfortunately however, the party members involved in numerous terroristic and extremist crimes. Through its media outlets, the party spread feelings of resentment, hostility and animosity among the population, which posed a threat to the constitutional order and the peaceful life of the people.
On September 30, 2015, the Supreme Court of Tajikistan has ordered the termination and elimination of the party, and the cessation of publication of their weekly local newspaper "Najot". It also ordered the closure of the party’s website and banned importing or distributing any audiovisual products, newspapers, literature or flyers pertaining to IRPT.
