Council on American-Islamic Relations

New York, (IINA) - The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) held its Annual Awards Banquet, with the theme of “Strengthening Our Voices, Advancing Together,” on Saturday in Brooklyn, New York, CAIR official website reported.
At the banquet, CAIR-NY presented the Mid-Hudson Islamic Association with the “2015 Faith in Action Award” for its involvement in CAIR’s Muslim Day at the Capitol and for its educational and outreach programs, such as food drives for those in need.
The 2015 Community Leadership Award was presented to the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge for its continuous activism on national and international issues and for services provided to the community.
Speakers Hassan Shibly (CAIR-FL), Carolyn-Walker Diallo and Imam Siraj Wahhaj addressed rising Islamophobia and the need for community unity.
Sponsors for the event included Guidance Residential, Cheema & Associates and Islamic Relief.
It is noteworthy that CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
