Jakarta, (IINA) - Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan disclosed on Wednesday that there has been a resolution to the standoff between Indonesia and Singapore over the management of haze from Indonesia, Jakarta Globe reported.
Posting on his official Facebook page, Balakrishnan said that recent discussions between his office and his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, had been productive with Indonesia accepting Singapore's assistance.
He said: "We reiterated our haze assistance package, which includes assets, personnel, high-resolution satellite pictures and hotspot coordinates".
The Indonesian government turned down assistance from Singapore in September when the crisis began, but Balakrishnan is confident that the two countries have made a breakthrough.
It is noteworthy that the haze in Indonesia was caused by outlawed slash-and-burn practices by some companies in Sumatra and Kalimantan and that an official investigation is currently underway, Singapore has repeatedly said that it will prosecute companies responsible for the haze within its jurisdiction.
