Jerusalem, (IINA) - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Monday said that it has called for an emergency Islamic summit in light of the latest Israeli escalations at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, news agencies reported.
The ministry pointed out that it has sent letters in this regard to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani, Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil El-Araby, and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
Israel has been enforcing a temporal division on the mosque, restricting Palestinians entry from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, in order to make way for settlers’ provocative tours inside the mosque compound.
The Headmistress of Al-Aqsa's religious school Ihad Sabri said that "Israeli Occupation Forces temperamentally decided when and how to allow schoolgirls and teachers enter their school inside Al-Aqsa Mosque".
Also, worshipers in Al-Aqsa said that the Israeli Occupation Forces inspected all Palestinian men entering the mosque and denied entry to a number of men below the age of 40. They complained that many others were asked to leave their identity cards at Israeli checkpoints outside entry gates. MOFA said this is a step that Israel believes Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, and UN organizations would get accustomed to.
MOFA stated to the press that the Israeli government should be held fully responsible for the consequences of these serious escalations. The ministry also called on all relevant sides to shoulder their responsibilities and put an end to Israeli aggression.
