OIC chief Iyad Madani
Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani sent several letters on Wednesday to the heads of the prominent international organizations, urging them to confront the Israeli violations and escalation in the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian Territories in general.
Madani addressed his letters to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Raad, and UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova.
The OIC Secretary General briefed the heads of these international organizations on the latest developments in Jerusalem, including the Israeli violations, the most aggressive in decades, which are now threatening to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque temporally and spatially according to a scheme Israel has been implementing for years.
Madani reiterated his strong condemnation of the Israeli attacks on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. He warned that burning parts of the Mosque, attacking worshipers inside it by occupation forces, and arresting those stationed in its courtyards are crimes against the freedom of worship, and violate the international agreements and conventions that ensure the protection of holy religious sites.
The Secretary General also condemned the complicity of members of the Israeli government in the recent attacks, some of whom lead groups of settlers into Al-Aqsa courtyards, under direct protection of the Israeli occupation forces, in a blatant defiance of the feelings of Muslims. He said that the Israeli government has been persistently committing these heinous acts while the whole world is watching.
Madani emphasized that the OIC would continue its activities and contacts to stop the blatant Israeli aggression on Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing at the same time that Al-Aqsa Mosque has a particular significance for the Muslim world as the First Qiblah and the third Holiest Mosque in Islam.
The Secretary General stated that the OIC General Secretariat is preparing to convene an Extraordinary Islamic Summit to consider the situation of the Palestinian cause. He asserted that Al-Aqsa Mosque will be the top priority of the prospective Summit.
