Rabat, (IINA) - Morocco will celebrate Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) on September 24, which will fall on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, according to astronomical calculations.
Morocco World News reported that according to the calculations provided by by Kadiri Samir, president of the Astronomical Observatory Ribat Al Fath in Rabat, the first day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah will be on Monday, September 14.
Taking into account other astronomical conditions, the crescent moon should not be visible on the northern half of Morocco, but it will be visible in the southern region of Agadir on September 14.
Other Arab countries are likely to celebrate Eid Al-Adha on September 23.
Eid Al-Adha is one of the two religious festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of submission to Allah’s command. Moments before the sacrifice, Allah intervened to provide Ibrahim with a lamb to sacrifice instead.
During the Eid, Muslims perform certain services along with the Eid prayers, such as symbolically sacrifice a sheep, a cow, a goat or a camel, in the name of Allah.
