Connecticut, United States (IINA) - Health Day journal had recently published a study that stated that drinking heavy amounts of caffeine may predispose young adults to serious heart problems, Daily Times Gazette reported.
A group of Italian scholars found out that heavy coffee drinkers are four times more at risk for developing cardiac problems. Those who take in moderate amounts of coffee in a day were at most three times more predisposed to heart abnormalities. These health data were collated over young adults who have had previous records of high blood pressure.
The research was conducted in a span of 12 years. The scholars concentrated on analyzing the health data of 1,200 non-diabetic yet hypertensive patients with ages from 18 to 45. The researchers quantified moderate and heavy drinking by this gauge: moderate (1-3 cups in a day) and heavy drinkers ( 4 or more cups in a day). 26.3 percent of the participants were non-coffee drinkers, 62.7 percent were under moderate drinkers while the other 10 percent were considered heavy drinkers according to the research quantifying data.
Experts on the study did not directly state that caffeine is a harmful substance, however they suggested that moderation or even refrain must always be the key to improving health status especially for those who were diagnosed with cardiac problems.
The researchers believe that after the discovery of this fact, people with hypertension must be as cautious as possible towards the negative effects of their coffee intake.
