Mina stampede: Death toll rises to 769; 934 pilgrims injured

Mina (IINA) – The death toll in the deadly stampede occurred on Thursday in Mina rose to 769. Saudi Arabia’s Health Minister Khaled Al-Falih announced on Saturday the new figure, an increase from the previous toll of 717. The number of pilgrims injured rose to 934 from 863 recorded just after the deadliest incident in a quarter-century to strike the annual pilgrimage of Hajj.
Addressing a press conference at Mina Emergency Hospital, Al-Falih offered condolences on the death of pilgrims to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and to the Muslim. He also prayed for forgiveness of those dead and speedy recovery of those injured in the tragedy. He also explained the elaborate arrangements made by the ministry to provide the best ever treatment and medical care for those sustained injuries. Al-Falih said this year’s Hajj was free from contagious diseases.
