Cairo, (IINA) - The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Monday announced the discovery of the largest natural gas field in the Mediterranean Sea, MEM reported.
The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum stated that an Italian company named Eni has made the discovery in the block of Shorouk in Egyptian waters, and that data revealed original reserves estimated at 505 billion barrels.
According to the minister’s statement, the process of developing the field would take around four years and it will significantly contribute to meeting the needs of domestic consumption of natural gas.
Finally, the minister noted that this discovery is the greatest achievement in Egypt and in the waters of the Mediterranean, and is likely to be "one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the world".
