Yaounde (IINA) – The leaders of Cameroon and Nigeria announced commitment to working together to fight against the terrorist group Boko Haram and eradicate this evil, news agencies reported.
This came during a state banquet held here on Wednesday by Cameroonian President Paul Biya in honor of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
"Terrorism is a global threat and only comprehensive response could bring it to an end," said President Biya, in reference to Nigerian extremist group Boko Haram.
He stated that terrorism threatened social peace and security in the countries around Lake Chad, particularly in Cameroon and Nigeria, adding that terrorism left many civilians dead, economic activities affected and refugees increased.
"We can't let this gangrene prosper. We will pool our resources and work together (to stop it)," President Biya said.
In turn, President Buhari said Boko Haram is the common enemy of Cameroon and Nigeria, pointing out that this extremist group kills civilians and displaces many Nigerians.
Buhari expressed his government's determination to fight Boko Haram, defend and restore territorial integrity of Nigeria, protect the lives and property of Nigerians. He promised to continue to work with Cameroon and other neighboring countries to eradicate the militant group.
President Buhari arrived in the capital Yaounde on Wednesday in the start of a two-day visit to Cameroon.
