Paris (IINA) – Qatar Airways has been named the world's best airline, taking out "Airline of the Year" at the annual World Airline Awards, Traveler website reported.
Announced at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday, the World Airline Awards, run by research firm Skytrax, are among the most high-profile awards in the aviation industry.
Qatar climbed back into the No.1 slot in the airline rankings after losing first place to Cathay Pacific last year. It is the third time Qatar has taken out the top spot. It also took out the award for the best business class seat.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker thanked his staff for their work in helping achieve the award.
"Our passengers are at the heart of everything we do at Qatar Airways, and we are very proud to be recognized by them," he said. Qatar Airways flies 160 aircraft to 147 destinations around the world.
The Skytrax awards are based on a survey of 18.85 million airline passengers from around the world. Passengers from more than 160 countries participated in the latest survey, which covered 245 airlines worldwide.
