Cairo (IINA) – The Muslim Council of Elders, headed by Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb, kicked off its first "Peace Convoy" to Paris on Monday, as part of a number of planned convoys to be dispatched to some non-Muslim countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and America.
At the outset of their visit to Paris, members of the convoy are set to meet with a number of French senators in the presence of several French cultural and media figures. They will also hold a dialogue session with the deans of the Catholic University to discuss the significance of spreading the culture of peace in the curriculum, besides introducing syllabuses about Islamic culture and interfaith dialogue in the list of curriculum taught at the university faculties.
The convoy will organize a visit to the Observatory of Geopolitical Studies in Paris, in addition to giving Friday sermon in El Asr mosque in Antony, a suburb south of Paris. It will further hold meetings with a number of French media outlets, and seminars with young people.
The peace convoys aim to spread the culture of tolerance and coexistence in these communities through clarifying the true image of Islam and its tolerant teachings. They also seek to interact with the Muslim youth and to protect them from extremist ideologies and terrorist groups, as well as to giving adequate answers to questions that matter to them, in consistent with the right approach of moderation.
