Rabat (IINA) – The Moroccan government has sent a number of imams to the Netherlands, in order to provide religious services for Muslims during the month of Ramadan.
Yassin Elforkani, spokesman of the Contact Group for Muslims and Government in the Netherlands, told Anadolu Agency that a batch of 24 imams arrived Monday in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, while a second batch comprising 29 imams is slated to arrive on Tuesday.
He added that these imams will work in mosques in various cities across the Netherlands, noting that they were dispatched at a request from the Contact Group to provide support for imams residing in the country during the month of Ramadan.
Elforkani explained that the imams will be involved in several activities in different cities, and will focus on the theme of the fight against "extremism". He pointed out that these imams are well qualified and of high level of efficiency.
It is to be noted that the Netherlands is home to an estimated 900,000 Muslims, of them about 300,000 are Moroccan descent.
