London, (IINA) - Jordanian King Abdullah met here on Wednesday with President of the House of Lords Baroness D'Souza and several members of the two chambers of parliament and discussed with them bilateral ties, regional and international issues, Petra reported.
During the meeting, the King highlighted the need of cooperation between the Jordanian and British parliaments, which will reflect positively on ties between the two countries.
Counter-terrorism efforts also figured high during the meeting, where Abdullah stressed that collective endeavors within a comprehensive approach are needed to confront this danger. He said such approach should include military, security, ideological, social and educational dimensions.
Regarding the issue of Syria, the King said the crisis in this Arab country is getting more complicated which requires the international community to intensify efforts to bring about a political solution to this crisis.
Highlighting Jordan's reform drive, Abdullah noted that the Kingdom made advanced steps towards achieving gradual, steady and comprehensive reform.
The King also spoke about major burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of regional turmoil, mainly a massive influx of Syrian refugees on Jordanian territory. He said the large number of refugees placed massive pressure on the Kingdom's already-strained resources, especially in refugee host communities in the northern region.
"King Abdullah has a holistic and broad understanding of the world and its issues, he is a strategic expert, and capable of proposing solutions to the problems facing the Middle East," Baroness D'Souza said.
She added: "One of the issues we discussed today is striking greater cooperation and coordination between the various countries to address regional challenges."
It is noteworthy that the King met on Tuesday with British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon where they reviewed important regional developments and issues including tackling ISIL and extremism, as well as the need for enhanced defence cooperation, according to British ministry of defence.
