Riyadh (IINA) - Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior vowed to arrest the masterminds behind a “cowardly” mosque attack that left 21 people dead on Friday.
“The terrorist attack confirms that deviant groups are seeking to create chaos [in the Kingdom,” spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Interior Maj. Gen. Mansour Al Turki told Al Arabiya News Channel, mentioning similar previous incidents including a shooting in Al-Ahsa in the same province last year. In November, three masked gunmen attacked a group of residents in Al-Dalwah village in Al-Ahsa, killing five people and injuring nine others. “What is important now is that we stop the masterminds behind this cowardly act and arrest them,” Al Turki added.
A total of 21 worshippers were killed and 88 injured in the suicide attack at Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque in Al-Qudaih town of Qatif in the Eastern Province. Among those injured, the condition of 12 is critical and they are admitted to Saudi Aramco hospital. Thirty people who sustained minor injuries have already left hospitals.
Saudi Minister of Health Khaled Al-Falih visited those injured in the attack, at Qatif Central Hospital on Friday and reassured their health. The minister reviewed the elaborate arrangements made at the hospitals in the region to give the best ever healthcare and treatment for those hurt in the horrific attack. He prayed for the speedy recovery for those injured, and conveyed condolences of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to the family members of those killed in the attack.
