Beirut, ((INA) - Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri warned, during his talks with French President Francois Hollande, that the situation in Lebanon will remain volatile until a solution to the Syria crisis can be put in place, Lebanese Daily Star reported.
“We tackled the presidential election stalemate and the need to speed up the delivery of arms as part of the Saudi grant to Lebanon,” Hariri said of his meeting Tuesday with Hollande at the sidelines of a Gulf summit in Riyadh.
“I told French President Hollande that the situation won’t calm down in Lebanon unless a solution is reached for Syria,” Hariri said in remarks published Wednesday by pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat.
“It’s true that Lebanon currently enjoys calm, but danger lingers if the situation remained the same in Syria,” he said.
A statement from Hariri's press office late-Tuesday said the Future Movement leader and Hollande discussed developments in Lebanon and the region as well as weapons deliveries to Lebanon as part of a $3 billion arms grant financed by Saudi Arabia.
The meeting, on the sidelines of a summit of Gulf monarchs at King Saud Guest Palace in Riyadh, was attended by a French delegation headed by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
Hariri and Hollande spoke about strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese security forces in order to counter looming threats, according to the statement.
