OIC urges member states to assist Yemeni people

Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani has appealed to the OIC member states and civil society organizations to provide humanitarian assistance, especially medical and food supplies, to the Yemeni people.

In a statement issued Monday, the Secretary General commended the assistance that has already been provided by some governments and charitable organizations. He stated that the General Secretariat is consulting with several civil society organizations that have consultative status at the OIC as well as other humanitarian organizations to provide medical, food and humanitarian aid for the Yemeni people to enable them overcome the current challenges.

Madani stressed that the General Secretariat is also consulting with UN agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent to take urgent steps to alleviate the plight of the Yemeni people and to consider the steps to be taken in the medium term.
