Kuwait (IINA) – Kuwait said Tuesday the end of “Operation Decisive Storm” and launch of “Operation Renewal of Hope” will pave the way for political action in Yemen, pursuant to the UN Security Council resolution no. 2216, KUNA reported.
The Renewal of Hope will trigger launch of humanitarian operations to honor the dire deeds of Yemeni people, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah told reporters here on Tuesday.
The resolution 2216, adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, condemned the military operations carried out by the Houthi militias against the legitimate government of Yemen, imposed arms embargo on the militant group, and blacklisted its leader and the son of ex-President Ali Abdullah Saleh. It also called for resumption of the political process on the basis of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative and its implementation mechanism, as well as the outcome of the National Dialogue conference.
Al-Jarallah said Kuwait is confident that the Saudi forces are capable of deterring any attempt to undermine the Kingdom’s security and stability. He stressed that any initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in Yemen should be based on the UN Security Council resolution 2216.
Al-Jarallah hoped that peace would be restored in Yemen, and the parties that harmed the Yemeni people would listen to the voice of reason and return to the negotiating table.
He said the GCC was involved in the reconstruction of Yemen, citing the donation of $274 million extended by Saudi King Salman for aiding the needy people of Yemen.
Al-Jarallah stated that the GCC countries were helping Yemen before the launch of the Operation Decisive Storm on March 26, and they will not hesitate in further effort to help and rebuild Yemen.
