Beirut, (IINA) - Irish President Michael Higgins arrived late Sunday on a three-day official visit to Lebanon that will include a trip to the south to meet with his country’s peacekeepers stationed along the volatile border with Israel, Lebanese Daily Star reported.
A source at Beirut airport told The Daily Star that Higgins arrived shortly before midnight on a flight from Istanbul.
The Irish president during his visit will hold talks Monday with Prime Minister Tammam Salam who will host a luncheon in his honor.
On Tuesday, Higgins will visit south Lebanon to inspect Irish troops serving as part of the U.N. peacekeeping force.
He is also scheduled to meet EU heads of missions and representatives of civil and international organizations concerned with Syrian refugees and other displaced people from the region who sought shelter in Lebanon.
