Monday 23 Mar 2015 - 15:55 Makkah mean time-3-6-1436 OIC chief Iyad Madani Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani has voiced concern about the serious developments in Yemen, which may lead the country to “the edge of civil war”.
Madani said the adoption of military option by the Houthis and their refusal to accept the international and regional efforts, which called for comprehensive national dialogue to find a peaceful way out of the deepening crisis in the country, would put the country on the brink of civil war and would have devastating consequences for Yemen and the entire region.
He renewed his call for all Yemeni parties to listen to the voice of reason and to put Yemen’s interest above all the political, tribal and sectarian considerations. Madani stressed that the Houthis’ attempts to employ the anti-terrorism fight to undermine the internationally recognized legitimate government of President Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi, is unacceptable, and will only contribute to exacerbate the chaos and deepen the political, security and humanitarian dimensions of the crisis.
The Secretary General called on all parties in Yemen, specifically the Houthis, to comply with UN Security Council resolutions and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative and to accept its invitation for holding a conference on Yemen in Riyadh, to complete and support the UN-backed talks. He also called on them to comply with the outcome of the National Dialogue Conference and the Peace and National Partnership Agreement and its security appendix, as the only way to meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people in the peaceful transition of power, and achieving security and stability, as well as development and social peace.
