OIC chief Iyad Madani

Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani vigorously condemned the attacks perpetrated in a number of Malian towns, especially in Bamako, Kidal and Gao, which claimed lives among both innocent civilians and UN peacekeepers.

Madani expressed his denunciation of such acts which are contrary to the values and principles of Islam, and described the perpetrators as enemies of peace and reconciliation in Mali. He urgently called on them to weigh the degree of their responsibility in the senseless sufferings meted upon so many innocent families, and to renounce any action that might jeopardize the serenity and safety of the Malian people.

Madani articulated his indignation as well as that of the OIC over the acts perpetrated by individuals, whose veiled objective is to undermine the ongoing peace process aimed at restoring the country's stability. He recommended the return to the inter-Malian dialogue to achieve a solution in favor of peace, reconciliation and stability in Mali.

The Secretary General extended his condolences to the government and people of Mali and to the families of the victims in particular.
