Thursday 19 Mar 2015 - 14:16 Makkah mean time-28-5-1436 Lebanon to seek $2 billion in aid for Syrian refugees at the third Kuwaiti donor’s conference Beirut, (IINA) - Lebanon will request for $2.1 billion in international aid for Syrian refugees to cover expenses for next two years, Lebanese Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas said Thursday, Lebanese daily star reported.
“Lebanon will request during the Kuwaiti conference which will be held at the end of this month for $2.1 billion to address the refugees’ needs over the course of two years, provided that the financial aid comes directly to Lebanon and not to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) or other U.N. organizations,” Derbas told local daily Al-Liwaa newspaper.
The Kuwait City will host the third donor’s conference in order to raise funds to deal with the humanitarian crisis stemming from the conflict in Syria.
Noteworthy that Kuwait has hosted other donor conferences over the past two years, which saw pledges of around $4 billion in aid, including $800 million from Kuwaiti government.
