East Jerusalem (IINA) – Israeli occupation authorities approved on Wednesday plans to build 200 settler homes in Ramat Shlomo, a settlement neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

An Israeli official at the Jerusalem Municipality said that the new construction is "vital for the development of the city and to attract young couples."

The move comes at a time of daily clashes between the occupation forces and the Palestinian youths, following a series of Al-Aqsa Mosque stormings and the continuing construction in the settlements.

This is the third time Israel has approved new construction for settlers in East Jerusalem, bringing the total number of authorized housing units this month to 978 in the settlements of Ramat Shlomo, Ramot and Har Homa.

The Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which were harshly condemned by the international community, are illegal under international law.
