Bogor (IINA) – Indonesia and Europe have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to save Indonesia's endangered endemic species, ANTARA, the Indonesian news agency, reported.

The MoU was signed between the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKSBI), the Forestry Ministry and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) at a zoo management workshop in Cisarua, West Java on November 6.

Participants at the workshop included directors of zoos and wildlife parks, as well as representatives of PKSBI, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Animal Asia Foundation and Berlin Park.

Biodiversity Conservation Director Bambang Adji said the Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation had urged all conservation agencies to focus their efforts on breeding one model species as a way to save endangered species.

The endangered animal species include the Java bull (Bos javanicus), anoa (Bubalus quarlesi) and hog deer (Babyrousa babirussa).
