Istanbul Islamic Summit to discuss reconstruction of Mali's northern regions

Istanbul (IINA) – The Islamic Summit Conference set to begin Thursday in Istanbul seeks to adopt a long-term development operations in the north of Mali.
In a draft resolution, seen by the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), the Summit will call on the member states and financial institutions of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in particular the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), to intensify the necessary aid for economic and social development, and to work on the reconstruction of Mali's northern regions.
According to the draft resolution, the OIC Secretary General will be mandated to complete the necessary work to create a Trust Fund to help Mali, pursuant to the decision of the 12th session of the Islamic Summit Conference.
This comes at a time when Mali peace process is making progress since the signing of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Bamako in June 2015, as a result of the Algiers Process.
The Islamic Summit considers Algiers Agreement between the Malian government and separatist movements, as a necessary basis for comprehensive and sustainable solutions to the conflict in north Mali.
The Summit pledges that the OIC will be committed to actively support Malian parties at the critical stage of implementing the terms of the agreement. Meanwhile, the Summit stresses the importance of constructive engagement in the political process and warns, those it called "saboteurs", of facing severe sanctions in case they pursue their negative activities, according to the draft resolution.
The Summit will also call on the government of Mali to adopt various political, social and economic measures for confidence-building, in order to isolate terrorist groups and organized crime gangs.
