Jeddah (IINA) – The 13th Islamic Summit Conference, which will begin in Istanbul tomorrow, will discuss the current situation in Lebanon and the implications of the issue of displaced Palestinians and Syrians in the country.
According to a draft resolution obtained by the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), the Islamic Summit affirms the need for supporting and backing Lebanon in its efforts to host the displaced Syrians, whose number exceeded one million, as well as sharing the burdens and numbers of the displaced persons with this hosting country.
The draft resolution stresses that the presence of the displaced Syrians and Palestinians in Lebanon should be only temporary as this matter constitutes an existential threat to Lebanon, and that everything possible should be done to secure their return to their countries. It also expresses appreciation of the efforts being made by Lebanon toward the displaced persons despite the meager resources.
According to the draft resolution, the conference will reaffirm full support for Lebanon in completing the liberation of all its territories from Israeli occupation by all legitimate means. It will also reaffirm the stand by Lebanon in its right to benefit from oil and gas resources in its exclusive economic zone.
The draft resolution welcomes the dialogue between the Lebanese political parties to overcome differences and ease the political tension and push national reconciliation and coexistence.
