Malaysia's halal industry export expected to exceed $10 billion

Forum on Halal Cosmetics and Personal Care: In Trend, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur (IINA) – Chief Executive of Malaysia's Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) Jamil Bidin said that he expects Malaysia's overall halal industry to grow beyond the 2015's total export, amounted to MR 42 billion ($10.1 billion), New Straits Times reported.
In 2014, the export revenue from the overall halal sector stood at RM 38 billion. 
The HDC chief executive said he hopes to attract Korean and Japanese investors to set up their bases in Malaysia as the gateway to the halal market. He was speaking to the media after the launch of the "Forum on Halal Cosmetics and Personal Care: In Trend" here on Tuesday.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Lee Chee Leong said Malaysia's exports of halal cosmetics and personal care products alone totaled RM 2.4 billion in 2015.
