Kyrgyzstan to hold English language week in schools

Bishkek, (IINA) - The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan will hold the English Language Week at schools of Kyrgyzstan from February 8-15 with the purpose to bolster interest to and to improve the quality of English language teaching, AKI Press reported.
The Week will include quizzes, contests, exhibitions, meetings and conferences at all schools of Kyrgyzstan, the Education Ministry's press service said.
The demonstration lessons on the theme of “English as international language” are planned for students in grades 5-11 as well.
Last year, Kyrgyzstan had the theme “I Love English Week” when a representative from the U.S traveled to the Kyrgyzstan suburb Kolhoz Kalinin during the week to present information on U.S government programs available to local secondary English teachers.
“Both students and teachers asked questions about U.S government educational programs like these and American school culture in general. Positive feedback from teachers was strong. Most of them were not familiar with the possibility of ongoing professional development through a U.S exchange program”, said the representative.
