Manama (IINA) – The Bahraini Fourth Criminal Court has sentenced 57 defendants to 15 years in jail for their involvement in the incidents at the Jaw prison, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.
The defendants were also sentenced to pay a total of 508,187 Bahraini Dinar (about $1.350 million) for the damages they caused at the premise, said Muhanna Al Shaygi, head of Southern Governorate Public Prosecution.
Al Shaygi said the prisoners engaged in acts of chaos, rioting and rebellion inside their wards. He added that they also used force and violence against Public Order servicemen and prevented them from carrying out their duties. They further started a fire at a public facility and damaged buildings in order to make them unfit to host inmates and thus putting their health and security at risk.
