Libyan rival factions agree on political deal, Skhirat, Morocco

New York (IINA) – The UN Security Council on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing a UN-brokered agreement on the formation of a national unity government, which was signed earlier by Libyan rivals in Skhirat, Morocco.
The UK-drafted resolution explained that the future unity government to be formed in Libya should be the sole legitimate representative of the country.
Representatives of rival Libyan factions signed last week a reconciliation agreement, in the Moroccan town of Skhirat, on the formation of Government of National Accord to manage a two-year transitional phase, expiring by holding legislative elections.
The deal provides that the authority should be made up of three main institutions: a legislative authority represented by the House of Representatives, a state council to serve as an advisory parliamentary chamber, and a presidential council.
All the powers of the supreme military, civilian and security positions, stipulated in Libya's laws and legislation in force, shall be transferred to the presidential council immediately after the signing of the agreement. Also, any decision shall be made unanimously by the council of the premiership.
