Mandera, (IINA) - The Muslims who shielded their Christian brothers from al Shabaab group attackers on Monday morning on a Mandera-bound bus in Kenya deserve medals, Muslim clerics in Mombasa said on Tuesday, The Star Kenya online news reported.
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) officials in Mombasa said the Muslims showed the true meaning of Islam.
Speaking at their office in Mombasa, the clerics said the Mandera Muslims deserve peace prizes. “The Prophet (peace be upon him) teaches that Muslims should protect their neighbours against oppression. Muslims should join their neighbours in times of happiness and in sorrow,” said CIPK National Organizing Secretary Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa.
“We are happy that those Muslims in Mandera showed what true Islam is about. The whole world should know that Islam and terrorism are two different things just like Heaven and Earth.”
Muslim passengers on bus in Mandera defied orders by the al Shabaab bandits to board the bus and leave the non-Muslims outside.
The Muslim passengers instead told the attackers to either kill all of them or leave all of them alone.
The bus was on its way from Nairobi to Mandera on Monday when the attack occurred in the village of El Wak on the Somali border.
The gunmen ordered everyone off the bus, but the passengers told them they wanted to be killed together or left alone.
