Brussels (IINA) – The European Union and the Arab League representatives held here on Tuesday and Wednesday constructive discussions on common challenges, with a particular focus on terrorist threat and extremism, and the Middle East peace process, as well as Syria, Libya, Yemen and the refugees and migration crisis, KUNA reported.
According to an EU press statement, they officially launched the “Strategic Dialogue” between the two organizations. The 4th meeting of the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC) and the Arab League Permanent Representatives also took place.
Sharing concerns about the political and security situation, the participants welcomed the expansion of the Euro-Arab partnership as an adequate regional response, the statement said.
They stressed, in this regard, the importance of the role played by Arab ambassadors in Brussels in enhancing the partnership
Within the framework of the launch of the EU-Arab League Strategic Dialogue, progress has been made in the Euro-Arab practical cooperation, particularly in the fields of conflict prevention, early warning and crisis management, humanitarian assistance, counter terrorism, transnational organized crime and weapons of mass destruction, it said.
The statement noted that the establishment of a working group for each of these areas will facilitate joint work to better respond to current and future security threats.
The PSC and the Arab Permanent Representatives will, together, address common political, economic and security issues with a view of sharing a better and safer future for all.
These fruitful discussions contributed to pave the way to the next EU-Arab League ministerial meeting, scheduled to take place in Cairo in April 2016, the statement added.
