Munich , (IINA) - A 250-kilogram US bomb used in World War II was found on Tuesday at a construction site near one of Munich's largest museums. The German police successfully defused the bomb without complications, DPA reported.
Under police protection, the bomb was transported via a special vehicle from the Deutsches Museum near the city center to a blast area where its casing was sawed open and its explosives removed, police said.
The device was discovered during construction work near the 90-year-old museum's main entrance, forcing an evacuation of the museum. About 600 visitors and 300 employees of the museum were forced to leave.
Bomb disposal experts had examined the unexploded device and established that it could not be defused at the site.
The museum is one of the world's largest science and technology museums, and it had to remain closed for the day. The museum is scheduled to reopen today.
